First Post

I should preface this introductory entry with the following statement. I have never blogged before. I feel as if this is important to let a potential audience know. I am new to this format of communication. I’ve kept an online journal before but never an actual blog that focused on one subject.

The Stage and Musical Show, better known as the S&M Show or SMS, is my senior capstone project as a Communication major. One year ago I completed a senior capstone project for my English major that focused on Greek mythology and its relevance to the original musical film Moulin Rouge!. That should have been a hint for things to come when I was asked to complete another capstone project. My interests lay in music, radio production, theatre, and film. My favorite types of productions are musical and science fiction. I choose to combine my interests of radio and musicals into one for my capstone project.

The ultimate goal of The Stage and Musical Show is to introduce audiences to musicals as a whole. I do hope to educate my potential audience along way, as well as entertain them. But in the end, The Stage and Musical Show is all about exposure. I feel as if musicals are one of the best forms of entertainment but not necessarily the most popular. In recent years they have grown in popularity, yes, but I feel as if that level of popularity can be expanded.

The Stage and Musical Show will be running tentatively for six weeks. Six weeks to go over five different types of musicals and one introductory show. The scheduled for the live broadcast show, which will air on 89.7 WSHC Shepherdstown Wednesdays from Noon to 1 pm, is as follows:

  • March 3rd, 2010 – Introductory Show
  • March 10th, 2010 – Rodgers & Hammerstein Show
